Inside out – Approaches to Ransomware and Data Loss Prevention

Ransomware and Data Loss can both be devastating for a business or organisation. Every person connected to your company needs to know how to avoid the contribution of human error makes to data and financial loss. Every manager who is in any way responsible for data security needs to put measures in place to protect your company.

Ransomware is an increasingly prevalent form of malware that can lock devices or encrypt their contents. Data breaches are among the most significant cybersecurity issues faced by businesses and organizations and the legislation is tightening by holding them responsible.

Our cybersecurity analyst Urban Schrott has years of experience in presenting to a wide range of audiences, with an emphasis on comprehensive, “non-techie” and straight to the point delivery of the subject. Topics covered in Urban’s presentation will include:

  • What is Ransomware?
  • Ransomware on computers and mobiles
  • Ransomware infection vectors
  • Ransomware prevention tactics
  • Data Loss Basics – definitions, types and statistics
  • Data Loss Prevention – how to protect sensitive data
  • Importance of authentication and encryption

The presentation lasts about 60 minutes including time for questions and is intended for anyone (not just IT people) who is responsible for security issues and company policy on computers or deals with any type of data covered in the data protection legislation. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

ESET Ireland’s Cybersecurity Analyst Urban Schrott has been raising awareness on cyber threats for over 10 years. He’s had over 1000 articles published in various Irish and UK media, from the Irish Independent and Silicon Republic, to the Irish Sun, had ESET Ireland appear on RTÉ and TG4 and has given over 150 interviews for numerous Irish radio stations, including appearing on Newstalk’s Pat Kenny Show. Urban has appeared at many public presentations on a range of IT security topics, ranging from business security, to online threats to children. In Ireland he has presented at UCD, Trinity College, LYIT, The Convention Centre, and various conferences and expos. Internationally at InfoSecurity Europe in London, Tech Days in Portugal, the Cyprus Computer Society
and ESET conferences in Slovakia, Spain and Germany. Because Urban is Slovenian, he’s also done some lectures and presentations in Slovenia with the University of Maribor, the Bled eConference and Slovenia’s Ministry of Defence. In short, we think it’s safe to say that while he may not know everything, he certainly knows a thing or two on cyber security, that various audiences find interesting, relevant and useful.
