ESET Ireland warns Irish Netflix users of a spam email asking to update their payment method, leading to a fraudulent website

ESET Ireland came across a new spam email, purporting to come from Netflix and asking users to “update their payment method” by logging into their Netflix account. Netflix is a global provider of streaming movies and TV series and according to stats, Ireland has over 300,000 paying Netflix users.

The email appears to come from a Norwegian email address, but the malicious link in it directs to a Ukrainian web address, clicking on which may lead to infecting computers with malware or attempt to steal Netflix login details for further abuse. The greatest malware threat to Ireland in the recent months is ransomware, which locks the user’s files and demands a ransom of several hundred Euro to unlock them. Infections with ransomware usually happen through email attachments or infected websites.

Irish users are advised to flag such emails as spam and not open them or click on attachments or links they may contain.
