A rogue application is a Facebook application developed by someone with fraudulent or deceitful intentions. The application often doesn’t perform its stated objectives. It is designed to obtain account information of the user, and it can be used to spread spam, scams or other malware to the friends of the infected account. Play.com spam points to malware downloads

The Register reports that multiple readers were annoyed at receiving junk mail messages on Monday from addresses they had only registered with online retailer Play.com. Several of these junk mail sites pointed to black hat controlled domains that served up malware, sparking theories that either Play.com had been hacked or its mailing list had been stolen.

Telecoms firms in Ireland breach data rules with marketing calls and texts
