It probably comes as no surprise to you that scammers are spamming out pleas to contribute to fake New Zealand earthquake relief funds. In fact ESET’s Aryeh Goretsky predicted scams and Black Hat SEO after the earlier Christchurch earthquake last September, and we saw similar issues around the beginning of 2010 in the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake.

Operator of ‘Support Center’ Assisting over 2,000 Identity Thieves
Dmitry M. Naskovets of Belarus, creator and operator of CallService.biz, an online business that assisted over 2,000 identity thieves in over 5,000 instances of fraud—pled guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit wire and credit card fraud. Through Callservice.biz, Naskovets helped fellow online thieves use stolen information by providing English language calling services to trick banks in the United States. More on Security Week.
Pace of technology ‘overwhelms’ security professionals
According to the 2011 Global Information Security Workforce Study (GISWS), IT security personnel are challenged by the proliferation of mobile devices as well as the rise of cloud computing and social networking. Many of the professionals admitted that they needed more training to manage these technologies yet reported that such tools were already deployed without security in mind. ZD Net reports.
